A decision was made to trial trolleybuses, and a converted petrol bus began running experimentally on the Payneham and Paradise lines. The trial was a success, and therefore a permanent system was opened in 1937. The permanent system began operations with a fleet of double-decker trolleybuses running to Tusmore. Extensions to Port Adelaide, Semaphore and Largs Bay were opened in 1938.
